Take me HOME!
A Message to our Military Service Parents
As a military family member myself, I understand the unique challenges you must meet head-on by being assigned to Fort Wainwright or to Eielson AFB. For most of us, our extended families live thousands of miles away. The majority of our support comes from other military family members.
Living in the Interior Region of Alaska presents challenges that we may not have had to face before: harsh weather conditions; high cost of living; dangerous winter driving conditions, to name a few. I also understand the challenges that arise due to a PCS and transitioning our children from schools throughout the world into this remote school district. In addition to dealing with environmental challenges such as our extreme cold weather conditions; our children must also face challenges of “starting over” in a new school, making new friends, working with unfamiliar teachers and administration, learning by different instructional methods, and dealing with the stress involved with the frequent and extended deployments.
When elected to the School Board, I will be honored to work with the School Liaison officer and you (the parents). I would make myself available to act as a conduit to bring your concerns forward to the district and to the Board. My focus would be to help ensure that your experience with the school district is a positive one- one which is responsive to your needs and those of your family members.
